Becky Lanier (Pines Presbytery) arranges notes on how presbyteries can respond to disasters during the Synod of the Sun's two-day training event led by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.
Three leaders met with 20 presbytery and synod representatives for the Synod of the Sun Disaster Response Training at the Presbyterian Mission Center in Irving, Texas, July 30-31,2008.
Caring for care givers was one of many deep facets explored during Presbyterian Disaster Assistance training with representatives from across the Synod of the Sun, July 30-31, at the Presbyterian Mission Center in Irving, Texas.
"Who gives you care?" asked Beth Koon (Tampa Bay Presbytery), a therapist from Florida and one of three PDA trainers. "Can you name six people?"
The 20 representatives from presbyteries and synod also considered which of their usual coping methods would be available during a disaster and what gives them during an emergency? Terry Coggins (Mid-South Presbytery) and Harvey Howell (Mission Presbytery) led the group through other topics such as "Discovering one another's gifts" and "Presbytery preparation" for disaster response.
